Frequently Asked Questions
We hope you enjoy your stained glass for years to come. Below are a few of the questions I get asked.
FAQs
-
Care and Handling: Handle with Care!
Glass is fragile and can break if mishandled. Stained glass is no different. Although your piece has been designed to be structurally sound, please take care when unpacking and displaying.
-
Choose the Right Place:
To display your stained-glass please note the weight of the piece. Some are designed to be free standing, others to be hung.
They may be hung with anything from a window sucker through to fixed brackets depending on the size and weight. Don’t assume string or picture wire will be strong enough. Please call if you want specific advice.
-
Cleaning: Never use anything abrasive!
Over time, your stained-glass may accumulate dust or dirt. To clean it, use a soft, lint free damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the glass or lead solder and paint on the glass.
-
How long does a commission take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the piece and the queue at the time, but most commissions are finished within 8 weeks of the design being approved. I’ll always give you an honest timescale before we start — and if you need a piece for a particular date, tell me early and I’ll let you know straight away whether it’s possible.
-
Can stained glass hang outside?
Most of my pieces are designed for indoor windows, where they’re protected from the weather. Some pieces can live outdoors in a sheltered spot - a porch or a covered window - but please ask before hanging a piece outside, as wind, rain and frost are not kind to glass, foil or solder.
-
Do you repair stained glass?
Sometimes — it depends on the piece and the damage. Send me a photo through the contact page and I’ll tell you honestly whether it’s something I can help with.

How are pieces posted?
Very carefully. Every piece is wrapped and boxed by hand with plenty of protection, and sent within the UK by a tracked service. In the unlikely event a piece arrives damaged, contact me straight away with a photo and we’ll put it right.
